1982 – Tim Smith begins professionally repairing laser machines, becoming one of the first in Sweden to work with industrial laser systems.
1990 – In the early 1990s, Tim establishes a close cooperation with Laser Machining Inc. (USA). Throughout the decade, business grows rapidly, laying the foundation for what later becomes LMI AB.
1997 – LMI AB is founded, with Tim Smith as the driving force and Anders Matsson as a key contributor.
2002 – The American company Laser Machining Inc. is acquired by Preco Inc. and changes name. LMI AB retains its original name and continues its operations in Sweden.
2004 – LMI becomes the exclusive agent for Electrox marking systems in Scandinavia.
2017 – LMI becomes a distributor of Bodor laser machines.
2018 – LMI moves into a new, purpose-built facility in Hjärpholn, Nås.
2023 – LMI becomes a full service partner to the world-leading company IPG Photonics, providing service for their laser systems throughout Scandinavia.
2024 – LMI transitions from Bodor to HSG Laser for larger laser cutting machines.
2025 – LMI becomes a Precitec partner in Scandinavia, providing both sales and service of Precitec laser heads.
Since its inception, LMI has been a Nordic distributor for world-leading manufacturers of laser optics and CO₂ laser systems –
including II-VI (now Coherent), which dominates the market for original equipment optics.
LMI has its roots in the needs of Swedish industry for robust and efficient laser systems.
