Lasermet Passive ALF – Interlocked Laser Welding Helmet

Lasermet Passive ALF – Interlocked Laser Welding Helmet

Lasermet Passive ALF is a laser welding helmet specifically designed for handheld laser welding. The helmet combines passive laser protection with interlock monitoring, allowing the laser system to be prevented from arming unless the helmet is correctly worn and the visor is fully closed.

Passive ALF provides protection for the face and head against laser radiation and is designed for environments where direct exposure or high levels of reflected laser energy may occur during laser welding.

Helmet and Visor Interlock Monitoring

One of the key features of Passive ALF is its ability to integrate with a Laser Interlock® system. The system can monitor whether the helmet is correctly positioned on the operator and whether the visor is fully closed before the laser can be armed.

If the helmet is removed, incorrectly positioned or the visor is opened, the interlock system can disable the laser output. This provides an additional engineered safety layer alongside the helmet’s passive laser protection.

Protection for Handheld Laser Welding

Both the helmet shell and laser filter are specified for the wavelength range 915–1180 nm with the marking DIR LB7 LM S CE.

Passive ALF has been tested and carries CE and UKCA marking. Lasermet states compliance with the PPE Regulation 2016/425 together with EN 166, EN 169, EN 175 and EN 207.

Component Wavelength Range Marking
Laser welding shell 915–1180 nm DIR LB7 LM S CE
Laser filter 915–1180 nm DIR LB7 LM S CE

Two Interlock Connection Options

Passive ALF can be integrated with the Lasermet ICS-7-ALF Interlock Controller. The system can monitor the helmet together with door interlocks, safety switches, warning signs and other safety functions.

The helmet can also be connected directly to a compatible laser through a distribution box, providing automatic arming without requiring a separate interlock controller.

Passive ALF with Headlights

Passive ALF can also be supplied with factory-fitted rechargeable work lights. The lighting system provides both wide-area illumination and focused task lighting, with five selectable operating modes. Charging is via USB Type-C.

The headlights are factory fitted by Lasermet and are not available as a separate retrofit accessory.

Part of a Complete Laser Safety System

Passive ALF can be combined with solutions such as Laser Castle Lite or Dolphin Laser Safety Pod together with Lasermet interlock systems. This allows personal protective equipment to be combined with engineered protective measures around the laser process.

The protective measures required for any installation should always be determined through a risk assessment considering the laser, process and working environment.
