Lasermet Laser Blocking Roller Blinds

Lasermet Laser Blocking Roller Blinds

Lasermet Laser Blocking Roller Blinds are specially designed laser safety blinds for windows and glazed areas where laser radiation must be prevented from escaping the controlled laser area.

The blinds provide passive laser guarding for environments using Class 3B and Class 4 lasers. They can be installed over conventional windows or vision panels in doors and are made to measure for the installation.

Laser Protection for Windows and Glazed Areas

Conventional roller blinds and sun-blocking materials are generally not designed to stop laser radiation. Lasermet Laser Blocking Roller Blinds therefore use specially developed laser blocking materials tested for use as laser guards.

The blinds can provide protection against accidental exposure to a laser beam and long-term blocking of laser radiation at lower power densities.

Encapsulated Design

Lasermet’s encapsulated roller blinds are installed within a white-finish aluminium frame enclosing the top, both sides and bottom of the blind.

This construction minimises the possibility of laser radiation passing around the edges of the blind while providing complete light blocking and a neat, integrated installation.

Orca or Wolf Laser Blocking Material

The blinds are available with different laser blocking materials according to the requirements of the installation.

  • Orca: high-specification protection suitable for Class 3B and Class 4 lasers. The heavy-duty material is easy to clean and is also suitable for hospitals, cleanrooms and medical environments.
  • Wolf: a lower-specification and more cost-effective alternative for certain Class 3B applications, particularly suitable for laboratory and industrial environments.

Lasermet states that both materials conform to BS EN IEC 60825-4 – Safety of Laser Products, Part 4: Laser Guards.

Manual or Motorised Operation

Laser Blocking Roller Blinds are available with several operating options depending on the installation:

  • Chain operation
  • Crank handle operation
  • Motorised operation
  • Wireless motor control
  • 24 VDC control

Motorised blinds enable opening and closing to be automated and integrated with other laser safety functions.

Interlock Integration

The blinds can be equipped with a Lasermet IS-MDC-12 dual-channel Interlock® switch for integration with a laser safety interlock system.

The interlock system can prevent the laser from being armed while the blind is open. The blind must be closed before hazardous laser operation can be enabled.

Wireless Control with ICS-RBX

Motorised Laser Blocking Roller Blinds can also be controlled wirelessly using the Lasermet ICS-RBX Wireless Roller Blind Controller. The ICS-RBX is an expansion card for the ICS-9, enabling automatic or remote operation of the blinds.
