Laser Training
The safe and effective use of industrial laser systems requires the right knowledge. LMI AB provides laser training for companies working with laser technology, with a particular focus on laser safety, risk awareness and safe working practices.
Training can be adapted to the participants’ roles, the equipment being used and the requirements of the organisation. We provide both laser safety training and operator training in connection with the installation and commissioning of new laser systems. Training can be conducted at the customer’s premises, at LMI AB or online, depending on the content and format of the course.
Laser Safety Training
Industrial laser systems can contain very high-power lasers. Safe operation therefore requires both appropriate technical safeguards and personnel who understand the hazards and know how the equipment should be handled.
LMI AB provides laser safety training for companies using lasers in industrial environments. The training gives participants an understanding of laser radiation, the hazards that may occur and how technical and organisational control measures are used to reduce the risk of exposure.
Depending on the level of training and the participants’ roles, topics may include:
- laser radiation and basic laser technology
- laser classes and hazard levels
- hazards to eyes and skin
- direct, reflected and scattered laser radiation
- risk assessment
- engineering controls
- enclosures and laser safety barriers

The objective is not simply to explain rules and theory, but to ensure that participants understand why the protective measures are required and how they should be applied in their own workplace.
Laser Safety Officer – LSO
Organisations using lasers may require a person with specific responsibility for coordinating and monitoring laser safety – commonly referred to as a Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
LMI AB provides training for people who work with or are taking responsibility for laser safety within their organisation.
The training provides a deeper understanding of areas such as laser classification, risk assessment, protective measures, organisation, procedures and the ongoing management of laser safety.
An important part of the training is learning how to apply this knowledge in practice and understanding how laser safety is affected by the equipment, process and working environment.
Laser Safety for Operators and Other Personnel
Not everyone working with or around a laser system requires the same level of training.
An operator working with a laser machine every day has different requirements from service personnel, supervisors or someone with overall responsibility for laser safety.
Training can therefore be adapted to different roles and responsibilities. For operators, the focus may include understanding the machine’s safety functions, hazard areas, normal operating procedures and what to do if a safety function does not operate as intended.
Laser Classes and Hazards
Understanding how lasers and laser products are classified is a fundamental part of laser safety.
The laser class provides information about the potential exposure hazard and influences the protective measures required around the equipment. Our training covers relevant laser classes and what they mean in practical industrial environments.
This is particularly important for high-power industrial lasers, where the laser source itself may be Class 4, while a complete machine can use enclosures, interlocks and other protective measures to prevent access to hazardous laser radiation.

Risk Assessment, Procedures and Protective Measures
Laser safety is not determined by the laser alone. A safe working environment is created through a combination of equipment, engineering controls, procedures and appropriately trained personnel.
Training can therefore be related directly to the customer’s own working environment and cover how enclosures, interlock systems, laser safety windows, warning systems and personal protective equipment work together.
This makes training part of the organisation’s practical laser safety programme rather than an isolated theoretical course.

Every laser installation has different requirements. Training can therefore be adapted according to factors such as:
Laser type and wavelength
Different lasers present different hazards and may require different protective measures.
Laser process
Laser cutting, laser welding, laser marking and other processes involve different operations and risk profiles.

Knowledge and Experience in Industrial Laser Safety
LMI AB is actively involved in laser safety within Swedish industry. In 2026, LMI AB hosted Lasergruppen’s third laser safety meeting, where industry representatives continued work on topics including training guidelines, daily inspections, incident analysis and common recommendations for laser safety.
This experience, combined with our day-to-day work with industrial laser systems, safety equipment, installation and service, provides a practical foundation for our training.
