Precitec YW52 Welding Head

Precitec YW52 Welding Head

Precitec YW52 is a powerful and modular laser processing head for automated laser welding with laser powers up to 20 kW. It is designed for demanding industrial welding processes where high laser power, long working distances and high process stability are key requirements.

The YW52 is configured according to the specific welding application. Optics, working distance, shielding gas, camera and process monitoring can be adapted to the laser system, material, component geometry and process requirements.

For demanding high-power laser welding

The YW52 is designed for automated laser welding processes using diode and solid-state lasers and is particularly suitable for applications requiring high laser power and stable process control.

Its robust design and large optical aperture enable the use of long focusing focal lengths and large working distances. This is an important advantage in automated welding cells where the laser head needs to operate at a safe distance from the component and process zone.

Modular and application-specific

Like the YW30, the YW52 is based on a modular concept. The laser head is specified for the individual application rather than being supplied as a single fixed standard configuration.

Different optical and mechanical components can be combined to adapt the laser head to the laser source, beam quality, working distance, component geometry and welding process.

The configuration can include:

  • different collimating and focusing optics
  • adapted shielding gas delivery
  • camera for setup and process monitoring
  • protective windows for the internal optics
  • CrossJet for protection against process-related particles and spatter
  • process and quality monitoring systems

Long working distances and flexible optics

The YW52 offers a wide range of collimating and focusing focal lengths. This makes it possible to adapt the beam geometry, spot size and working distance to the specific welding process.

Focusing focal lengths of up to 680 mm enable long working distances, which can be particularly valuable when welding large components and in robotic production systems where accessibility and distance from the process zone are important factors.

Designed for stable series production

In high-power laser welding, the optics are exposed to significant thermal loads while particles and welding spatter can affect the optical components.

The YW52 uses water-cooled optics together with protective windows and Precitec’s CrossJet concept to protect the internal optics and provide stable conditions for continuous industrial operation.

This contributes to reproducible welding results and high process reliability even in high-power applications and demanding production environments.

Process monitoring and quality assurance

The YW52 can be combined with various process monitoring systems. This makes it possible to monitor the welding process and integrate additional quality assurance functions into automated production systems.

The appropriate monitoring solution depends on the application and can be adapted to requirements such as joint position, weld depth, process stability and inspection of the completed weld.

Integration with robots and automation

The YW52 is designed for automated production environments and can be integrated with industrial robots, linear axes and customised machine systems.

The long working distance and the ability to adapt the optical configuration make the laser head suitable for both large components and complex welding geometries.

LMI AB can integrate the laser head together with the laser source, robot or other motion system, fixturing, control system and process monitoring as part of a complete automated laser welding solution.
