Service and Support for Industrial Laser Systems

A laser system is often a critical part of the production process – and when something goes wrong, access to the right technical expertise is essential. LMI AB provides service, troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance and technical support for industrial laser systems.

Our service organisation works both with systems supplied by LMI AB and with laser equipment from a wide range of other manufacturers. Our service technicians have many years of experience in industrial laser technology and work with everything from laser sources, optics and process equipment to complete machines and automated laser systems.

Whether you are dealing with unexpected downtime, planned maintenance, installation of new equipment or a need for spare parts, the objective is the same: to keep your production running and minimise unnecessary downtime.

A Service Partner for the Complete Laser System

Industrial laser systems consist of many different components that must work together correctly. A problem that appears in the laser process does not necessarily originate in the laser source – the cause may instead be found in the optics, control system, cooling system, process equipment or machine.

LMI AB’s broad experience in laser technology enables us to work with the complete system rather than focusing on a single component.

Our services include:

  • Troubleshooting and repairs
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Installation and commissioning
  • Relocation and reinstallation of laser systems
  • Laser source service and support
  • Optics and optical components
  • Process equipment and laser components
  • Spare parts and consumables
  • Technical support
  • Service agreements

This makes LMI AB a long-term service partner throughout the lifetime of your laser system.

Troubleshooting and Repairs

When a laser system stops, it is important to quickly determine where the problem originates.

Our service technicians have many years of experience in troubleshooting industrial laser systems and can work with equipment from many different manufacturers. We analyse the system step by step to identify the cause of the problem and determine the appropriate corrective action.

Troubleshooting may include:

  • Laser source
  • Optics and beam path
  • Cutting or process head
  • Control system
  • Electrical components
  • Cooling system
  • Gas and media components
  • Machine and peripheral equipment
  • Process parameters

In many cases, initial troubleshooting can begin remotely through technical support. When the problem requires work on site, our service technicians can visit the customer’s facility.

For IPG laser sources, LMI AB also provides dedicated service as an authorised IPG Photonics service partner.

Preventive Maintenance

The best service intervention is often the one that can be carried out before downtime occurs.

Regular preventive maintenance allows components and functions to be checked before potential problems affect production. This improves the conditions for high system availability and makes it possible to schedule maintenance rather than reacting only after a machine has stopped.

Depending on the system and equipment, preventive maintenance may include inspection of:

  • Optics and protective windows
  • Filters and cooling systems
  • Process heads and nozzles
  • Moving components
  • Electrical connections
  • Safety systems
  • Laser source and peripheral equipment
  • General machine condition and function

Maintenance requirements vary depending on machine type, laser technology, operating hours, process and production environment. Maintenance is therefore adapted to the individual installation.

Regular maintenance also provides an opportunity to plan the replacement of wear parts and spare parts before they cause unplanned production downtime.

Service Agreements – Planned Maintenance and Better Control

For companies where laser systems are a critical part of production, a service agreement can provide greater predictability and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.

Instead of involving the service organisation only after a problem has occurred, maintenance and inspections can be planned in advance.

A service agreement with LMI AB can be adapted to the equipment, production environment and individual requirements of the customer.

A service agreement may include

  • Scheduled service visits
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Inspection of critical components
  • Inspection of optics and process equipment
  • Review of wear parts and consumables
  • Recommendations for future maintenance
  • Technical support
  • Spare-parts planning

The purpose is not simply to service the machine at a predetermined interval. A good service agreement should help the customer plan maintenance and identify potential problems before they result in production downtime.d ett bestämt intervall. Ett bra serviceavtal ska hjälpa kunden att planera underhållet och upptäcka potentiella problem innan de leder till produktionsstopp.

Adapted to Your Equipment and Production

Two laser systems can have very different service requirements even if they are technically similar.

A machine operating continuously in multi-shift production is subjected to very different conditions from a laser system used only a few hours per week. Materials, processes, environmental conditions and contamination levels can also affect maintenance requirements.

We therefore base each service programme on the actual installation and how the equipment is used.

From Emergency Repairs to Planned Maintenance

Unexpected faults can never be eliminated completely. However, systematic preventive maintenance can reduce the risk of worn components or overdue maintenance developing into costly production downtime.

A service agreement also provides better planning for service, spare parts and maintenance costs.

Contact LMI AB and we will help you develop a suitable service programme for your laser equipment.

Installation and Commissioning

When a new laser system is installed, correct installation and commissioning are essential for both performance and long-term reliability.

LMI AB’s service technicians work with the installation of industrial laser systems and help prepare equipment for production. Installation is also a natural part of the machines and systems supplied by LMI AB.

Depending on the equipment and project, the work may include installation, connection and inspection of the various system components as well as start-up and functional testing.

Because LMI AB works with both laser technology and complete production systems, we can also provide support when several different components need to work together.

Relocation and Reinstallation of Laser Systems

Relocating a laser machine involves much more than transporting it from one location to another.

Laser equipment contains sensitive optical, electrical and mechanical components that need to be handled correctly during dismantling, transportation and reinstallation.

LMI AB provides support when relocating laser systems.

Depending on the machine and project, our service technicians can assist with planning the relocation, dismantling relevant equipment and reinstalling it at the new location.

After relocation, the system should be checked to ensure correct operation before production resumes.

Spare Parts and Consumables

Access to the right spare parts can be critical when a laser system is down.

LMI AB stocks spare parts, wear parts and consumables for industrial laser systems. Through our network of suppliers, we can also source components that are not available from our own stock.

Our range includes:

  • Laser optics
  • Protective windows
  • Nozzles
  • Ceramic components
  • Laser lamps
  • Filters
  • Oils and lubricants
  • Coolants
  • Other wear and spare parts

Because LMI AB works with many different types of laser systems, we can also help identify the correct component when the customer does not have a complete part number.

Technical Support

Not every problem requires an on-site service visit.

In many cases, our technicians can assist through technical support and an initial assessment of the problem. This may involve identifying a possible source of the fault, checking components or helping the customer determine the appropriate next step.

LMI AB provides telephone support Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00. Support is primarily intended for customers with systems supplied by LMI AB, but we can also assist with questions concerning optics and components for a wide range of laser systems.

When a problem cannot be resolved remotely, the case can proceed to an on-site service intervention.

This provides customers with a straightforward route into LMI AB’s service organisation – from the initial enquiry through to repair when required.

Service for Other Manufacturers’ Equipment

LMI AB’s service operation is not limited to machines and laser systems that we have supplied ourselves.

Our technicians have experience with different types of industrial laser systems and can in many cases assist with troubleshooting, service, optics, components and spare parts for equipment from other manufacturers.

The work we can perform naturally depends on the machine, laser source, system design and the availability of technical information and spare parts.

Do you have a laser system that was not supplied by LMI AB? Contact us anyway. We can assess the equipment and determine how we can assist.
