Lasermet ICS-6 Elise – Interlock Controller

Lasermet ICS-6 Elise is an expandable laser safety interlock controller designed to monitor and control safety functions in laser installations. The system can control door interlocks, door locks, illuminated warning signs, beam shutters and laser power or enable functions.

ICS-6 uses full start-to-end dual-channel safety architecture with fault detection and is designed to achieve EN ISO 13849-1 PLe. The system can be expanded and integrated with other components in the Lasermet Interlock® range.

Please note: Lasermet replaced the ICS-6 with the ICS-9 Interlock® Controller in December 2021. ICS-6 is therefore primarily relevant for existing installations, servicing, expansion and technical reference. For new installations, ICS-9 is normally the current alternative.

Central Control of Laser Safety Functions

ICS-6 can be used as the central safety controller in a laser safety system and can control and monitor functions including:

door interlocks and safety switches
electrical door locks
illuminated laser warning signs
beam shutters
laser power and laser enable functions
emergency stops
external safety and control systems

The system provides feedback monitoring and fault detection and can also interface with access control and fire detection systems.

Controlled Access with Override

ICS-6 includes a time-limited fail-safe Override function, allowing controlled access through an interlocked door while maintaining the required safety functions.

Emergency stops can be connected to the system, and an unlimited number of door interlock switches can be connected. Four individual switches or groups of switches can be monitored directly by the controller.

Expandable Interlock System

The standard ICS-6 provides three interlock outputs and can be expanded using the IB9 Interlock® Board to provide nine outputs. With the deeper back box and contactors, the system can also be configured with interlocked mains outputs.

ICS-6 can also be connected to other Lasermet Interlock® Controllers and configured to operate as a master or slave unit in larger installations.

Expansion and Connectivity

ICS-6 can accommodate up to three automatically tested expansion cards. Lasermet specifies the following expansion options:

Ethernet/USB connectivity
uncommitted relay expansion card

This allows the controller to be configured for applications ranging from relatively simple laser installations to larger safety systems incorporating multiple monitored functions.

ICS-6 in Existing Laser Installations

ICS-6 remains in use in many existing laser installations. LMI AB can assist with the assessment of existing interlock systems and the selection of suitable solutions when servicing, modifying or upgrading laser safety installations.

For new installations, the Lasermet ICS-9 may be the more appropriate alternative as it has replaced the ICS-6 in Lasermet’s current product range.
